A copy of the original build sheet for the car notes the car’s delivery through the services of Lex Garages to the first owners – B & F Fahy Ltd of Bristol. The sheet further notes a specification that included chrome wire wheels, Motorola Radio and, importantly, overdrive. While the old records note early servicing and maintenance of the car, there is no further service history until the car was acquired by Steve Wakefield in 1987 from a small local garage near Wiscombe Hill Climb where he was competing with his business partner. They got word that car was sat at the garage where it had been stored for a number of years, they acted quickly and purchased the car for £7,000. Steve recalls that they were going to have the car towed out but the garage owned attached some power cables to the car and got it running. After stripping the car down when the car arrived back in the London area it was decided that they wouldn't commit at that time to a restoration so the car sat in parts for almost 10 years before giving the car to Martin Brewer of Runnymede Motor Company to sell. The car sold to a David Willday of Surrey in 1997 for £14,000 and confirmed on the bill of sale the car was sold in parts. The registration documentation was similarly brief and reflective of the change to computerised records at the DVLA in the late 1970’s so we are grateful to the current owner for instituting investigation into the ownership history A copy of the original registration documentation show the ownership passed from BH Fahy to Tower Scaffolding, also based in Bristol. There is a further, sadly illegible, Bristolian owner before the car moved down to Exeter in Devon into the ownership of Dr Gordon Moxon in May 1972. The only other trace of ownership prior to the modern documentation comes from the Aston Martin Owner’s Club who record the ownership of the car by a Mr R L Farmer of Belsize Park in London but cannot provide dates although the 1992 register shows the connection Mr Willday was responsible for the commencement of a schedule of restoration and maintenance that has been continued by subsequent owners. A full engine rebuild, increasing the engine capacity to 4.2 litres, was done in 2000 and then a full chassis and body restoration came under the direction of Phoenix Restorations. Then a complete interior retrim by Aston Martin specialists, Trinity Engineering completed the job. However, a rebuild of the engine was completed by Trinity Engineering in March 2013 making the mechanical integrity of the car as up to date as its immaculate appearance.
Today the car is ready to be enjoyed and is presented in fantastic condition and benefits from some fettling and a full service at Chicane.
