1957 Mercedes Benz 300SL Roadster
This 300SL Roadster was delivered new to the USA in 1957 and spent most of its life in Maryland and California with old US titles on file. The car was purchased by a German collector along with a 300SL Gullwing after they were stored for many years. Both cars were repatriated back to Germany and totally restored by respected Mercedes Benz specialist Lars Rombelsheim in 2011. It was noted during the restoration that this car retained an extraordinary number of original major components. The body, engine and axles were all original and exactly as delivered from Mercedes Benz in the 50's.
Today the car retains the same colours as it left the factory in Black over Tan Leather which is in the correct and original grain and pattern.
For better everyday driving the car has been fitted with disc brakes all round as well as a modern cooling system, engine pre heating and electronic ignition. The axel has been rebuilt to the original European specification of 3.25:1 for better high speed performance. The Roadster still retains its original Becker Mexico radio, tool set, and jack, as well as the original manual and stamped service book. Finally the car benefits from the more desirable and original European headlights that were sourced by Lars and installed.
We are delighted to offer this example to the market that not only benefits from a full body off restoration but also being extremely well sorted mechanically and wonderful to drive.
